Multi-IQ achieves a high level of target ID accuracy at depth far better than any single frequency detector can achieve, including switchable single frequency detectors that claim to be multi-frequency detectors. When Minelab uses the term "multi-frequency" we mean "simultaneous" - that is, more than one frequency is transmitted, received AND processed at the same time. This enables maximum target sensitivity for all target types and sizes, while minimizing ground noise (especially in salt water). There are currently only a handful of detectors from Minelab and other manufacturers that can be classified as true multi-frequency, all of which have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Low frequencies usually provide more depth on large targets than high frequencies, which are usually more sensitive to small targets.

EQUINOX 800 offers the choice of 5 single frequencies.
Both models cover a much wider range of targets when operating in Multi-IQ than a single frequency can, but if excessive ground noise is present at a particular detection location, switching to a single frequency can help eliminate this potential interference signal.
